Getting started

What you need

• An email address you can read right now.
• A passport, or a government-issued ID card, in date.
• About three minutes for verification, with your face on camera.

You do not need money to open an account. A verified account with nothing in it is still an account, and it keeps its bank details.

Create your account

Start at Sign up. Enter your first and last name and your email address, or press Continue with Google. We send a six-digit code to the address; type it in and the account exists.

1. Enter your name and email, and press Continue.
2. Open the email and copy the six-digit code.
3. Enter the code. You are signed in.

Signing in later works the same way, with a fresh code to your email each time, or with the password if you chose to set one.

Getting let in

Sempo is invite-only while we build it. After you sign up, one of two things happens:

• Your email address is on the list, and you go straight to verification.
• It is not yet, and you see You’re not in yet. That screen puts you on the waitlist automatically, with nothing to fill in, and we email you at that address as soon as you are let in.

The address that counts is the one on your account. If you were invited at a different email, sign up with that one.

Verify your identity

Before Sempo can hold or move money for you, we have to confirm who you are. It is done once. Press Start verification; the check opens in a new tab, where you photograph your ID and then your face. When it tells you that you may close the page, do. The Sempo tab has been watching and moves on by itself.

Most checks finish in minutes. Some are looked at by a person and can take up to a working day; you can close the tab, and we email you either way. Verify your identity goes through every screen you might see, and what to do on each.

Your account is set up

Once you are verified, the screen says Setting up your account for a few seconds while your wallet and your bank details are created. Then you are in. Home shows your balance, zero for now, and four buttons under it. Deposit and Receive work today; Send and Withdraw are greyed out and say so when you hover, until they are switched on.

Add money

Press Deposit and choose how. A bank transfer gives you account details to send to from your own bank, and takes a day or two to land in your balance. Sending USDC on chain, on Miden or Ethereum, gives you an address. Cards are not connected yet. Add money has the details for each.

Receive is the other door: it shows your Sempo address, which is your email, for somebody else to pay you at.
